A story of honesty at PhilHealth Fairview: An upright deed returns visiting member’s treatment funds 03-24-2024

Public service goes beyond customary transactions. It speaks of one’s pure intentions and selfless acts.

This was felt by Felipa Kaamino of Caloocan City, after hopelessness engulfed her after losing her money last March 27 at PhilHealth Local Health Insurance Office (LHIO)-Fairview. Said money was intended for her operation.

Kaamino decided to visited LHIO–Fairview to inquire about PhilHealth benefit packages for her kidney stone operation and to update her record. The travel proved to be difficult for a single woman, who lives alone, and with medical condition. Despite this, she braved the traffic and the heat to reach PhilHealth.

She brought a sum of money (P14,000) intended for her operation. Al lot of things were going through her mind during her trip, including the results of her scheduled operation, she absent-mindedly left her bag at the LHIO. In it were important documents, and her hard-earned money.

Kaamino only noticed her missing bag after heading to the nearby mall, when she was about to pay for her lunch. Worry began to sink in, she just lost the money she saved her operation.

Then came along Rommel Maghacot, utility personnel of Laging Qlean, found Kaamino’s bag while cleaning the office area. He noticed a cloth-made envelope bag left in a chair unattended.

Without thinking twice, he immediately informed and turned the bag over to the guards on duty: Roseller Remasog, Gigbo Pacis, and Rionil Montera.

Josephine D. Isorena, LHIO-Fairview Head, led the review of CCTV footage and service transactions of her office to identify the bag’s owner – ensuring that the valuable documents and cash will be returned to the right person.

Following protocols, Isorena contacted Kaamino and asked her to return to the office for verification. Subsequently, the cash and documents were turned over to Kaamino, who immediately expressed her heartfelt gratitude and admiration to the LHIO Fairview personnel, security guards and utility staff for their honesty and selfless dedication to their work.

Amidst these challenging times, honesty still thrives – motivating us all to be to keep moving and fighting, while keeping our integrity, compassion for others, and lending a helping hand whenever possible.
